Communion.
I get confused every Sunday when the whole church partakes in communion and not one person communes. I've been reading the numerous entries in the Bible about the Last Supper and I don't see any instance where everyone sat in silence or prayed. When I'm at a meal, silence isn't really an option.
Maybe communion is a time to commune with God. In that case, it is understandable that the disciples did not bow their heads to pray. God was in the room with them.
I have just wondered about communion for a while. If the definition of communion is the act of sharing thoughts or feelings, how can you do that in silence?
Maybe we just need a better word for what we do. To me, that word does not fit our actions.
Just something I thought about today.
